Luckily, our heroes live in an alternate universe where breakdancing can solve all of society’s problems, and over the course of ninety-five boogie filled minutes, dancing stops bulldozers, pays bills, ends gang wars, and even cures the ill and the infirm (one person bounds out of their wheelchair in jubilation apparently they simply forgot they could walk). Breakin' 2:Electric Boogaloo delivers everything great about the first Breakin', and then dollops more of everything good on top of it. While our trio of boss breakdancers – Kelly aka Special K (Lucinda Dickey, the possessed star of Ninja 3: The Domination), Turbo (Michael “Boogaloo Shrimp” Chambers) and Ozone (Adolfo “Shabba-Doo” Quinones) – went for it and made their dreams come true at the end of the first film, in this installment the trio are called back into action to save their neighborhood youth center (subtly named “Miracles”) from the clutches of evil (read: white and uncool) government bigwigs who want to bulldoze the building to make way for a new shopping center. Released later THE SAME YEAR that the original Breakin’ attempted to pulverize the legitimacy of breakdancing for the masses, this notoriously wacky sequel finished the job in a riotous spray of sweat bands, boom boxes and melodramatic dance-offs. In the rarified world of “break-sploitation” films, there is perhaps no greater achievement than the super fly wonder that IS Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo.
